DONATION FOR HOPE VILLAGE AND SIDE BY SIDE INTERVENTION BY MMCT

INTRODUCTION: Hope Village
Hope Village is an orphanage that provides loving and caring homes for children with HIV/AIDS or who are abandoned. It is in the heart of Katutura run by 14 hardworking moms that look after 92 children. On 22 February 2018, Miss Namibia 2018, Selma Kamanya handed over the donation to Marietjie de Klerk, Founder of Hope Village, and winner of the Category B Women of Excellence 2018

INTRODUCTION: Side by Side
Side by Side operates as a day care and early intervention center for families of children with special needs. Their mission is to provide early childhood development in children with special needs, to train parents as well as the community and caregivers.

Children with the following disabilities are served by the Side by Side program – Autism, Cerebral palsy, Brain damage, Down syndrome, Hydrocephalus and development delays.

The short-term goals of Side by Side

• Expand the Day care and Early Intervention Centre
• Disability awareness in Namibia
• Parent Support Groups
• Dietician needs
• Information Centre
• Swimming therapy

The Long term Goals
•To expand services to other locations in Namibia small towns and rural areas.
•Written personal programs and home follow ups.
Side by Side requires the support and assistance through donations. Without therapy life can be very cruel and the pain children go through is beyond bearable. Many of these children lose the ability to eat and drink as their muscles spasm, causing bone deformation and dislocation of joints. This can be prevented with the help of therapists and the correct training facilities.

On 22 February 2018, Miss Namibia 2018, Selma Kamanya handed over the donation to Huipie van Wyk, Director of Side by Side Early Intervention, and winner of the Category A Women of Excellence 2018

Huipie was so generous that when she heard that Hope Village has a much greater need this month for sponsorship she asked us to please buy food for the rest of her sponsorship for Hope Village.

Mr Sindano Nekundi, Marketing Manager, Corporate & Investment and Business Banking of Standard Bank was also present as sponsor of the Women of Excellence Project.

Elise Husselman , representative of the Michelle McLean Children Trust was also present to hand over the donation that Michelle McLean Children Trust made towards the women of excellence 2018, something that would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship we receive from Katuka Fishing.

BURSARY FOR ZURIEL NANUS

Zuriel Nanus, was a Gr12 student that applied to the Michelle McLean Children trust for a bursary to help her further her studies. The case appealed to the Michelle McLean Trust as Zuriel’s mom is a house worker with 3 other brothers and she really had enthusiasm to further herself in life to make a better living for them all. We were also impressed with the results she already achieved in her Matric exams and believed that we can help make someone’s dream to better herself in life true.

Zuriel started studying Bachelor in Accounting at NUST from January and received a sponsorship for bursary to the amount of N$43270.00 for 2019 which Michelle McLean handed over to Zuriel Nanus on 28 February 2019. This was once again made possible with the generous sponsorships received from Katuka Fishing.
