THE MICHELLE MCLEAN CHILDREN TRUST
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michelle McLean unconditional love for and care towards all Namibian children are proof of the commitment she made in 1992 on the evening of the Miss Universe pageant when she said. “My priority would be with the children of Namibia, because they are the foundation of every nation.”
The Michelle McLean Children Trust was established in 1992 and has been running strongly ever since. Through the continuous projects and training programmes of the Trust, many children have been inspired by Michelle’s motto in life: “If you can imagine it, you can do it.”
To ensure that the Michelle McLean Children Trust is financially sustainable, the Board of Trustees has embarked on new ideas and initiatives by engaging in different business ventures.
The first such business venture with which the Trust became involved was Finance in Education (FinEd) in 1998. Together with a commercial bank, FinEd, based on sound business principles, was formed to develop microloans in Namibia.
FinEd, as market leader in microloans, is a registered legal entity with the Registrar of Companies, Namfisa, and has to adhere to the Usury Act of 1968.
During 2002 Nedbank Namibia Ltd became the majority shareholder of FinEd with whom the Trust has had a very long relationship.
Today the Trust, as founder member and shareholder, is still benefiting financially from FinEd. |
